Blake Lively and Hamish Bowles take to the waves for the June issue of Vogue

What would you do if Anna Wintour called you into her office and said that you were being sent to California, along with Gossip Girl Blake Lively, for surfing lessons? If you're Hamish Bowles, you don your most dapper surf wear and take to the waves, of course!

That's just what happened for the June issue of Vogue. Hamish Bowles was commissioned by Anna Wintour to profile Blake Lively, who graces her second cover of Vogue, on-location in California. Bowles did double-duty for this article by not only interviewing Lively and discussing her upcoming film role in "Green Lantern" as a svelte superhero, but also chronicling his own surfing adventures for Vogue readers.

If you've ever seen photos of Bowles, Vogue's European Contributing Editor, in his usual attire (three-piece suits, pocket watches, crocodile loafers, etc.), then you probably share my curiosity in seeing Bowles in surf wear. Vogue.com supplied a photo and, believe me, it is as sartorially hilarious as you would expect! Bowles is photographed decked out in what I would call "surf couture," a checked blazer, striped shirt, and tie accompanied by a wet suit and flippers. I bet he had difficulty surfing in that!

As for Lively, she is radiant in the photo shoot, wearing body-con dresses, tiny white bikinis, and sporty swimwear. The cover shot of Lively in a nude bathing suit and lightweight top is also gorgeous.

Anna made a wise move pairing Hamish with Blake. This was a thoroughly original idea and I can't wait to see the hard copy of the issue.
